Drop Necklaces, Archival Pieces Take Over at the 2025 Oscars
From Doja Cat to Mikey Madison and Selena Gomez, many of this year’s Academy Awards attendees donned drop necklaces.

The 97th Academy Awards took place Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre, with Emmy-winning comedian Conan O’Brien hosting the event.
Like the Grammys, Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony honored the city of Los Angeles in multiple ways, with firefighters from the L.A. and Pasadena fire departments taking the stage in a segment with O’Brien to tell jokes and raise funds for the Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund.
As the stars gathered to celebrate one another’s work in the film industry, their diamond jewelry shined brighter than ever.
At this year’s Oscars, many stars choose to highlight their décolletage with drop necklaces, cool-toned metals like platinum and white gold continued to be the go-to choice this awards season, and the big brands brought more pieces out of the vault.
Here are nine of my favorite looks from the 2025 Academy Awards.
Mikey Madison
Like the Grammys, Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony honored the city of Los Angeles in multiple ways, with firefighters from the L.A. and Pasadena fire departments taking the stage in a segment with O’Brien to tell jokes and raise funds for the Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund.
As the stars gathered to celebrate one another’s work in the film industry, their diamond jewelry shined brighter than ever.
At this year’s Oscars, many stars choose to highlight their décolletage with drop necklaces, cool-toned metals like platinum and white gold continued to be the go-to choice this awards season, and the big brands brought more pieces out of the vault.
Here are nine of my favorite looks from the 2025 Academy Awards.
Mikey Madison

Mikey Madison, a Tiffany & Co. brand ambassador, wore a piece from the brand’s archives to the awards show.
The “Anora” star donned a drop necklace, circa 1909-1919, in platinum-iridium with an ornate diamond drop.
She continued with the platinum theme through her diamond stud earrings, diamond bracelet, and three-stone ring featuring a more than 9-carat pear-shaped diamond flanked by pear-shaped side stones.
Madison also wore a pink tourmaline ring by Tiffany & Co., matching her custom Dior dress with blush pink skirt and black bandeau. Her dress also was an archival piece, as Christian Dior originally designed it for his 1956 Bal à Paris spring-summer collection.
It was a look fit for a winner and Madison delivered. She took home her first Oscar on Sunday, winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for “Anora.”
Margaret Qualley

Margaret Qualley, who starred in Oscar-nominated film “The Substance,” paired her custom black Chanel gown with Chanel high jewelry that featured diamonds galore.
Chanel’s “Motif Russe” necklace with diamond fringe was a showstopping piece that trailed down Qualley’s back.
On her wrist was the “Étoile Filante” bracelet in white gold with diamonds. She also wore a pair of diamond earrings and a diamond ring.
Later in the evening, Qualley changed into a red dress for a performance that was a tribute to James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Chanel is set to receive a Gem Award for High Jewelry Excellence for its “Haute Joaillerie Sport” collection later this month.
Demi Moore

Veteran actress Demi Moore received her first Oscar nomination this year in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category for “The Substance.”
She accessorized her custom silver sequined Giorgio Armani Privé dress with jewels by Chopard.
Her tassel earrings from Chopard’s “Red Carpet” collection feature 17.11 carats worth of diamonds, while her ring centers on a 10-carat oval-cut diamond surrounded by accent diamonds totaling 5.70 carats.
Moore’s wrap-style bracelet comes from the brand’s “Garden of Kalahari” high jewelry collection. It features a 10-carat emerald-cut diamond on one end, only to be outdone by the 15-carat emerald-cut diamond on the other.
Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez attended the Academy Awards alongside her co-stars from “Emilia Pérez,” which set a record for a non-English-language film with 13 Oscar nominations this year.
Gomez was seen on the red carpet wearing a Bulgari high jewelry necklace in platinum. The “Shape of Matter” necklace showcases a 10.16-carat pear-shaped diamond drop suspended from a collar with 18 round brilliant diamonds, 228 step-cut diamonds, and pavé diamonds.
Her Bulgari earrings are set with two brilliant-cut diamonds, 40 step-cut diamonds, and two round brilliant-cut diamonds, all in white gold.
Gomez completed her red-carpet look with Bulgari’s “Serpenti Viper” platinum ring, which paired perfectly with her marquise-cut engagement ring from fiancé Benny Blanco.
Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning also looked to vintage and antique jewels for her red carpet look.
She went into Cartier’s vault for a 1950s choker featuring 700 diamonds, totaling about 49 carats.
Fanning paired the necklace with a matching bracelet and cool-toned ring.
Her dress also featured a bow, which was a top motif in jewelry in 2024, in a design by Sarah Burton for Givenchy.
This was Fanning’s first time at the Oscars, attending for her role in “A Complete Unknown,” which was nominated for Best Picture.
Paul Tazewell

Paul Tazewell won an Oscar in the Best Costume Design category for his work in “Wicked.” He is the first Black man and the second Black costume designer to receive an award in this category.
On his collar, he wore a vintage brooch by Fred Leighton from 1950.
The platinum piece featured more than 45 carats of round- and brilliant-cut diamonds.
He also wore a pair of Fred Leighton Art Deco emerald and diamond cufflinks and a Kwiat Ashoka diamond snake ring in platinum.
Coco Jones

Grammy-winning singer Coco Jones attended the awards show wearing a drop necklace with a luxurious 104-carat cushion-cut diamond lariat necklace by Harry Kotlar.
She styled the necklace with a pair of diamond earrings and a custom Coach dress made of fabric scraps from vintage Coach pieces.
Doja Cat

Doja Cat was seen on the red carpet in Messika jewelry.
The “Solar Diva” drop necklace showcased a 34-carat cushion-cut yellow diamond hanging from a yellow gold collar.
She paired the necklace with the brand’s “Pear Appeal” yellow diamond earrings and a cushion-cut solitaire ring.
Her dress took inspiration from her stage name, opting for a custom leopard print dress based on a Pierre Balmain gown from the 1950s.

The singer, songwriter, and record producer attended the Academy Awards as a performer alongside Raye and Blackpink singer and White Lotus star, Lisa.
The trio each sang a song in the tribute performance for the James Bond producers, following Qualley’s dance.
Doja Cat sang the title song from the 1971 Bond Film “Diamonds are Forever,” which shares the same name.
During her performance she wore a dress designed to look like it was literally dripping in diamonds but was actually made with more than 1 million Swarovski crystals.
Doja Cat did, however, don diamond jewelry, wearing Swarovski’s “Matrix” Y necklace, tennis necklace, choker, ear cuffs, and “Millenia” tennis bracelet.
